The stores will remain open longer in Geneva during EURO 2008. Representatives of employers and unions have endorsed an agreement. The schedule is extended until 20:00 on weekdays and 19:00 on Saturdays. The shops will open Sunday, June 15.
The agreement covers all stores (food or otherwise) of the tourist zone, "said Fabienne Gautier, president of the Federation of Trade Geneva (FCG), referring to information from the regional television Blue Lake. This zone extends from the station to the old town and also includes the lake.
Clearly, from 7 to June 29, the shops will stay open an hour longer on weekdays and Saturdays. The bosses asked two Sundays opening but received only on June 15, when the third and final meeting of the EURO 2008 at Geneva.
In Zurich, throughout the city, businesses who wish to greet customers until midnight on weekdays and open every Sunday during the competition. The situation will be roughly similar in Basel. In Bern, the timetable will not be extended during the week, but shops in the city centre and around the stadium will open on Sundays.
