Romanian midfielder Mirel Radoi suffered a bad facial injury against Italy and will probably need surgery, ruling him out for the rest of Euro 2008.
Romania will probably have to do without Mirel Radoi for the remainder of Euro 2008 after he suffered a bad facial injury in the Group C match against Italy. The midfielder was stretchered off after clashing heads with Razvan Rat. "I've been told it's quite serious," said Romania coach Victor Piturca.
"He will probably need eye injury and also has a broken nose. I don't think he will be able to play the next game." The Steaua Bucharest player was taken off with large bandages covering his face, so it was hard to see how bad the damage was. It's possible he fractured his cheekbone as well as his nose, in which case he will require surgery.
Meanwhile, Rat was able to continue playing with a bandage to his forehead, which slowly came off during the second half, when blood started pouring down his face. Romania managed to hold both Italy and France to draws, and will now need to defeat already qualified Holland in the last game to ensure a shock qualification to the quarter finals at the expense of the World Cup finalists.
