Real Madrid striker Raul Gonzalez said Thursday he was aware that Spain coach Luis Aragones would likely leave him out of the national squad for Euro 2008.
"I know that it is really very complicated and difficult for me (to take part), but I still have hope," he told a joint news conference with Aragones.
"All I want is what is the best for the coach, for the team and for me, and I want to be peaceful," he added.
The Madrid captain was speaking after meeting with Aragones at the headquarters of the Spanish Football Federation in what was seen as a bid to defuse tensions raised by the player's likely ommission from the national team.
Aragones, who has not selected Raul since September 2006 despite the player's improved form, did not give any clues as to whether or not he will call on the player.
"I know Raul, I know what he can do, if I think I should call him, I will call him, and if not, I won't call him," he said.
