The provocative images of two Polish tabloid, published four days of the Poland-Germany match in the Euro-2008, have sparked Thursday convictions of other media and the Ambassador of Poland to Berlin.
The large-circulation daily Fakt, also belonging to the German press group Axel Springer, has published Wednesday a photo montage showing the breeder of the Dutch team in Poland Leo Beenhakker armor medieval knight, in the process of cutting the head with his sword to the German player Michael Ballack covered with a cloak of Teutonic knight.
Another tabloid, Super Express, a simultaneously published an article illustrated with a photo montage where Leo Beenhakker holds in his hand heads Joachim Löw and Michael Ballack, surmounted by the title "Returns us their heads."
"It's a lack of taste idiot. I wish evil to this newspaper," said Poland's ambassador to Germany Marek Prawda, cited Thursday by the Internet edition of Die Welt.
Leo Beenhakker has apologized Thursday for the German section of the Super Express on behalf of the Polish team.
"We apologize to the German people for what appeared yesterday on the cover of a newspaper in Poland," he said at a press conference, having described the article "m. .. ".
"Unfortunately, publishers of tabloids often exceed the limits, and this not only in Poland", commented Thursday the Polish daily Rzeczpospolita right.
"The Polish-German relations are difficult and full of tension that the tabloids operate to increase their sales," noted the newspaper as "scandalous" the publication of Super Express.
"We have no particular comment to make, but I think we must be careful not to exceed certain limits," said Rob Faulkner Thursday, spokesman of UEFA.
Germany and Poland meet Sunday in Klagenfurt (Austria) as part of the group, which also includes Croatia and Austria.
The two teams have clashed 15 times since 1933 and Poland has never imposed (eleven German victories, four to zero).
