Austria plays Cuba in Euro 2008 warm-up game in empty stadium

( iht.com )

Austria will play Cuba on Friday in a European Championship warm-up game in an empty stadium.

No spectators or press will be allowed to watch the match, which will consist of three periods of 35 minutes each.

"I want quietness around the team just before the tournament," Austria coach Josef Hickersberger said Thursday. "This is no official match, but a test game against a tough opponent."

Hickersberger said he will use the game to test several lineups and to see all players of his preliminary 31-man squad in action.

Austria will play an official friendly against Nigeria next Tuesday, one day before Hickersberger has to announce the definitive squad for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

Austria plays its first match on June 8 against Croatia, and will also face Poland and Germany in Group B.

Cuba, which is coached by Reinhold Fanz of Germany, is currently in Austria for a training camp.
