Liverpool has formalized the future arrival of Philipp Degen (25 years) at Anfield Road. The Swiss international engage with the "Reds" on 1 July, at the expiration of his contract with Borussia Dortmund, where he played since the summer of 2005.
Degen, who is uncertain for EURO 2008 due to injury, Switzerland will become the second to bear the prestigious Liverpool jersey after Stéphane Henchoz. The latter had lived beautiful moments with the club, including winning the 2001 UEFA Cup, FA Cup and England 2001 League Cup french 2001 and 2003.
"Philipp is still young, but already has plenty of experience to have played in the Bundesliga, national team and in the Champions League," said manager Rafael Benitez on the website of the club. "It is an offensive player with a big energy and a winning mentality. It will bring quality to our team."
