David Odonkor, who was a surprise pick for Germany at the World Cup two years ago, may get another unexpected call-up for the European Championship.
Odonkor has been plagued by injuries and hasn't played much for Real Betis in the Spanish league.
He last played for Germany in a 3-0 loss to the Czech Republic in October.
"He was injured for a long time but he has improved his form in recent games," Germany coach Joachim Loew said Tuesday. "That's why we have to see what role he could play."
Odonkor, a speedy winger who used to play for Borussia Dortmund, was a surprise choice for Germany's national team at the 2006 World Cup on home soil. He was picked by then-coach Juergen Klinsmann and played a decisive role in setting up the winning goal in injury time against Poland.
