EURO 2008 INFO

Southampton striker Marek Saganowski has stated that he will strive to make the Poland's squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008.

Earlier this month, Poland coach Leo Beenhakker selected Saganowski in a provisional 32-man squad from which 23 players will go to the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

"Finding myself on this list was a very nice surprise for me. When I did not receive an international call-up for the last friendly game against the USA in March, I thought that the coach is no longer interested in me. Now I must fight for a place in the EURO 2008 squad," Saganowski told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

"There is a certain group of players who will definitely make the final squad. However, there are some free places as well. Apart from Maciej Zurawski, Radoslaw Matusiak and Tomasz Zahorski, at least one more striker will go to the Euro 2008."

"Now the most important thing for me is to go with national team to the pre-Euro 2008 training camp in Germany. There I will prove that I am worth selecting."

Saganowski will not have an easy task as he will need to fight for a place with such forwards like Arminia Bielefeld's Artur Wichniarek, Hertha Berlin's Lukasz Piszczek and CSKA Moscow's Dawid Janczyk.
