EURO 2008 INFO

The city of Sion expects between 80,000 and 100,000 spectators to attend matches at Euro 2008 on a giant screen in the UBS Arena. The city does not content itself with football and organised a party perpetually around the sporting event.

The city subsidizes the event up to 150,000 francs, "said the chairman of the organising committee Francis Sierro. The contribution of other partners brings together a budget of 265'000 francs.

Under the name "OLA Sion 08", the municipality intends to decorate the city centre in the colours of football with the focus screen giant UBS Arena. For the duration of the Euro, the centre will be closed to traffic from 19.00. The operating conditions of public institutions will be relaxed.

The city does not leave the door open to overflow. Thus, the concerts will be banned horns and terraces will close at midnight during the qualifying round. The period is still in school exams and the municipality wants to ensure a certain tranquility night.

The UBS Arena will however not exclusive broadcasts of the open air. The terraces can accommodate large television screens. The municipality placed on the popular respect. During the football World Cup in 2006, no overflow particular has been found.
