The Brazilian midfielder Roger Guerreiro, 27, was granted Polish citizenship Thursday, opening the door to the national selection for the Euro-2008.
"Welcome to the new Polish citizen," said President Lech Kaczynski wish her success in the national team, at a public ceremony.
"I promise to do my best to represent the dignity Poland on the ground, like outside the stadium," said the player.
Wednesday, the coach of the Polish team, the Dutchman Leo Beenhakker, had announced its intention to add Roger Guerreiro to an extended list of 31 players expected to be prepared to compete in the Euro.
To be able to represent his new country, Roger Guerreiro has yet to get the green light from the International Football Federation (Fifa).
Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil plays since 2006 to Legia Warsaw (Poland 1st division). It has evolved in the past Brazilian clubs Sao Caetano, Corinthians Sao Paulo, Flamengo Rio de Janeiro in Spain at Celta Vigo, and then back to Brazil to the EC Juventude.
