Soccer news in brief from around the world:
* Sweden defender Erik Edman will miss Euro 2008 after sustaining a bad knee injury playing for English Premier League Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Edman told the Swedish daily Expressen's Web site (www.expressen.se) he would need an operation after tearing cruciate ligaments in Wigan's 3-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers.
Sweden are in Euro 2008 Group D along with holders Greece, Spain and Russia. The tournament, co-hosted by Austria and Switzerland, starts in June.
* Second from bottom Veria have sacked coach Yiotis Tsalouchidis after only two games in charge, the Greek Super League club said.
Tsalouchidis, who was appointed earlier this month, saw his side lose to fellow strugglers Ergotelis and draw with PAOK Salonika.
He became the fourth Veria coach to be sacked this season, following Dimitris Kalaitzidis, Ratko Dostanic and Yiannis Mantzourakis.
