100 days to cross the 16 participating countries of the Euro 2008 on an electric bicycle.
Who is this great idealist who began the challenge to travel 10000 km in 100 days with a minimum of energy expenditure?
Mathias Jäggi, aged 25, from a village of 1000 inhabitants located halfway between Basel and Zurich, is a citizen of the world, an economist, he likes to make his ideas and dreams.
A graduate of a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Bern, he had his first professional experience at Hewlett-Packard and two start-ups.
Athlete of endurance and amateur runner, he was rewarded in 2007 by two awards. Among his passes time before there are any taste for travel: Eastern Europe and West Asia or Central America.
It was during 2007, that the idea of a new challenge:
Travelling with a low environmental impact on an electric bicycle.
It was a key event as a tagline. What could be more obvious that the challenge of linking to the Euro 2008 organizers whose countries this year are Switzerland and Austria?
Mathias Jäggi then became the basis for his new challenge: in 100 days through all participating countries (16 in total) to the EURO 2008 at the handlebars of his electric bicycle.
It will also want to be an ambassador of Switzerland opened his country to the world and the capacity to innovate Switzerland.
He begins to see the diverse landscape that lie ahead on the road and hoped a cultural exchange. It hopes to capitalise on to echo the performance of a means of transportation and environmental innovation.
Throughout his journey, several press events will be organized in cities stages of the rider to exchange ideas with the local population.
To achieve its challenge, Mathias chose to go on a bike manufactured by electric FLYER Biketec AG in Switzerland, with whom he will walk 10000 km through 16 countries.
He has chosen a FLYER Sport Series, equipped with an internal derail Rohloff 14 speed. Autonomy is, depending on the type of land, estimated at between 30 and 80 km per battery. Mathias 3 prevail in with him.
The departure for his "very large loop" is February 28, 2008 at Basel in Switzerland, exactly
100 days before the opening match of Euro 2008.
"Our pédaleur trans-European" will then travel France, Spain and Portugal.
His path will lead him to Athens (the south) in Greece, Turkey, Romania, Lithuania and Stockholm (the north) in Sweden.
On his way all owners of electric bicycles FLYER are invited to join him to accompany him for a few kilometres or upon arrival.
Mathias Jäggi is expected in Lyon on Friday, February 29, 2008, at approximately 19 pm

For his project, estimating the power consumption to browse 10000 km is only 15 euros 50.
Mathias argues that: "... my bike about 100km consumes the equivalent energy that you use to take a hot shower for 3 minutes in the morning! ".
His daily consumption will be equivalent to 3 batteries 10Ah. The 100 kWh for its journey, will be 100% produced by a photovoltaic system and back into the network in Switzerland.
In his small trailer (provided by the sponsor SwissFunRent), the cyclist will carry his personal affairs, a charger and two batteries. It can embark with him a laptop, which will regularly update its website.

Kurt Schär, the manager of FLYER, also hopes that the participation of his company in the project will clearly demonstrate the performance of the latest generation of electric bicycles Swiss FLYER.
The FLYER several years are used for applications in the tourism partner Baumeler. It was therefore without fear that Mr Schär agreed to sponsor Mathias Jäggi for his project and to advise him in his choice of product.
