Frankfurt - A man named Martin was the first lucky football fan as the draw of 14,315 tickets for Germany's three group matches at Euro 2008 got underway on Wednesday - in a lottery from 1,503,061 ticket requests.
The man's last name was not revealed for data protection reasons. The draw takes place at the Frankfurt headquarters of the German football federation DFB.
The lottery is only for the group matches against Poland, Croatia and Austria at the June 7-29 tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
Tickets for possible German knockout round matches are to be drawn at a later stage with more than a million additional applications. The total German ticket requests for the tournament are 2,630,027.
